Tap

Pupils can attend these classes from 3 years of age where it is combined into our baby and Pre-primary classes. Once pupils have taken their first ballet exam they then study tap in a separate class.

The ISTD have recently renewed their tap syllabus bringing it more up to date in both style and music. Children can take exams from Pre-primary up to grade 6 and then continue into the major syllabus and study towards their pre-vocational examinations. There is also the opportunity to take performance medal tests.

Tap is an exciting form of dance in which dancers wear special shoes equipped with metal taps. Tap dancers use their feet like drums to create rhythmic patterns and timely beats. The term “tap dancing” is derived from the tapping sound produced when the small metal plates on the dancer’s shoes touch a hard floor or surface.
